A complete, lead alloy spindle whorl or weight of uncertain date. The object is circular in plan, plano-convex and with an even central perforation running through it. It is undecorated and with a light white colouration. It measures 23.0mm in diameter, 10.8mm in height and weighs 32.93g.
Lead spindle whorls and weights were commonly used from the Iron Age through to the post-medieval period and are difficult to date with any certainty without supporting archaeological context. The function of such objects is also difficult to determine as the forms are common and may have served as spindle whorls or weights used for fishing or goods.
