A probably Medieval ceramic vessel sherd. It is a rim sherd from a convex sided vessel probably a jar. The rim is everted and thickened. The fabric is grey and very hard, with a laminated to irregular texture and with frequent large inclusions including angular grey grit and angular white quartz. The sherd is glazed on the inside with a thin dark brown glaze and there are splashes on the outer face. There is a thumbmark depression in the edge of the rim, and another thumbmark, possibly attaching another piece of clay, on the shoulder. The sherd is broken longitudinally, so much of the inner face is missing. The sherd is 40mm high, 93.5mm wide and the wall is 8mm thick. 37.5g. The vessel rim diameter is about 280mm.
