A cast copper alloy Medieval casket key dating from AD 1100-1400. It has a sub-circular bow and a shank of oval section. The bit end of the shank is hollow for 3mm and the end is concave. The bit is a rectangular tab with a cleft in the leading edge and another opposite. The bit and bow have been twisted out of alignment. The key displays a patchy, light green patina. It is 35.1mm long, 12.5mm wide and 4.3mm thick. It weighs 5.3gm. Similar examples are illustrated in Egan, 1998, The Medieval Household, pages 111-112.
