A complete silver strap slide of probable Post Medieval dating (AD 1500 to AD 1700).
The strap slide is rectangular in shape, with a D shaped cross section. The corners of the outer edges are bevelled. The inside edge is flat with filemarks present. No traces of decoration are present on either side. No signs of attachments or internal prongs are present.
It measures 21.8 mm in length, 15.4 mm wide and 4.1 mm thick. The frame is 2.9 mm thick. It weighs 4.3 g.
The strap slide is a light grey colour, with an even surface patina.
Similar style strap slides, often made from copper alloy, has been recorded on the PAS database, including: SUR-009A37; CAMHER-5A7B14; HAMP-B83F97; YORYM-4E0A22 and YORYM-15C9B2.
As this artefact is probably older than 300 years and has a precious metal content of greater than 10%, it should be reported under the requirements of the Treasure Act 1996.
