A complete copper alloy trade weight of Post Medieval dating (18th Century AD).

The weight is circular in plan. The obverse has a raised ring around the edge as a border. Two concentric engraved circles are present in the centre, above a stamped Crowned W. The reverse is plain and undecorated.

The weight is a mid green colour with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

It measures 15.9 mm in diameter, and is 3.0 mm thick. It weighs 3.1 grams (0.11 oz).

Originally it was probably a quarter ounce weight, and due to abrasion, has lost some mass. The crowned W stamp would suggest that it was created during the reign of William III (AD 1696 to AD 1702), and would date accordingly.
