A copper alloy stud dating to the Roman period, AD 43 to 410.
The object has a circular head with a diameter of 27.88 mm which is convex. From the underside projects a square sectioned shaft which tapers to a point althought this is damaged.
There are a wide variety of Roman studs known and large selection was found at Colchester, see for example number 3096 (Crummy 1983: 117).
