A copper alloy stud dating to the Roman period, c. AD 43 to 410.
The head of the stud is domed and round with a diameter of 23.9 mm. The underside of the head is flat and from it projects a square shaft which tapers to a point.
There are many recorded examples of Roman studs, see examples from Colchester, (Crummy 1983) figures 120, no. 3173.
