A worn and incomplete iron dove type horseshoe of the Medieval period, circa late 13th century.
The shoe has three sub-circular nail holes which have rectangular recesses, probably to accept square-headed nails. The heel is inclined and narrows with a turned down calkin. Probably a saddle shoe. Reference Ivan. G. Sparkes, OLD HORSESHOES, page 15. Length of shoe: 104.51 mm. Width: 25.21 mm. Thickness: 5.43 mm. Weight: 84 grams.
