An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age or Roman brooch dating to 200 BC - AD 200. The catchplate is incomplete and the pin is missing. The brooch is broadly lozenegeform in plan and is formed on the front face from four concave circular recesses, the two main circular sections are 8.7mm in diameter and are flanked by two smaller circular projections to the top and bottom which are 6.7mm in diameter. The two main sections both contain a circular perforation in the centre which would have contained a rivet to hold the now missing inlay. The two smaller projections have similar perforations, the rivet and inlay survive. The inlay is black and has a matt appearance. The reverse is concave and consists of a central square with four semi circular projections, one located at each of the cardinal points. To the top of the brooch are two lugs which would have held the now missing spring and pin. The catchplate is missing although the remants of the catchplate are visible at the bottom of the brooch.
The brooch is 22.15mm in length, 21.7mm wide, 8.75mm thick and weighs 6.26 grams.
