A lid formed of thick lead sheet with oval domed centre of probably Roman date. The sheet has been cut broadly into a rectangular shape. It is thick at c. 3-4mm. A large sub-oval dome has been formed at the centre from hammering from one side. It attains a height of c. 45mm and measures c. 200mm by max. width c. 125mm; one side tapers and it is c. 110mm at the narrower end. The lid was attached by iron rivets, 15 in total, that follow the edge of the dome rather than the lid overall. They are generally evenly spaced, though with a cluster towards one corner. They have expanded domes and square shanks, most truncated towards the surface of the lid, but others surviving to a greater extent, up to 38.7mm for the longest.

The dating for the piece is given by small, abraded sherds of local redwares, greywares and Black burnished ware (probably from Haworthy), including a rim sherd of the latter. These date to the 3rd and 4th centuries. A number of 4th-century Roman coins were also recovered from the vicinity. A fragment of rooftile was also recovered as well as a detached nail fragment.

The lid was found at a metal-detecting rally and recovered archaeologically on 25/06/2013 (ref. (105) ERF 13). Nothing was found beneath the lid.
