A cast copper alloy vessel leg/foot probably dating from the Medieval period.
The object is sub-rectangular in plan with straight sides narrowing towards the foot, the edges of which are rounded. It is oval in cross-section with a central vertical rib. The terminal end measures 15.09mm in width and 5.68mm in thickness. At the opposite end the object measures 26.22mm in width and 7.56mm in thickness.
There are adhering traces of an unidentified black substance, which is probably a sooty/carbon deposit, on each surface of the object. Cast cooking vessels seem to have come into use in the second half of the 13th century and to have continued at least until c. 1600 (Geake 2001: 52).
