A mesolithic adze, made from flint dating 10,000 - 4,000BC. An adze is an asymmetrical flaked axe. This is a flaked adze and it is unpolished. There is extensive flake removal on both the dorsal and ventral surfaces, there is an area of cortex covering approximately one third of the dorsal surface at the proximal end. The adze is oval in plan and it is irregularly lozenge-shaped in cross-section; in profile this tool is straight. This adze has been rolled and there is some damage to the edges and butt. The flint is dark grey and mottled.
