A mesolithic adze, made from flint dating 10,000 - 4,000BC. An adze is an asymmetrical flaked axe. This is a flaked adze and it is unpolished. There is extensive flake removal on both the dorsal and ventral surfaces, there is an area of cortex remaining on the butt. The adze is oval in plan with an irregularly shaped butt, it also have an irregular lozenge-shaped cross-section; in profile this tool is curved. This adze has been rolled and there is some damage to the edges and butt. The flint is dark orange/brown and mottled.
