UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT

Unique ID: PUBLIC-E1BD83

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A fragment of a cast copper-alloy of uncertain attribution and probably dating from the Medieval to Post Medieval period. The object consists of a biconical pointed tip, connected to a widening sub-conical segment which has been facetted with four larger facets, interspersed with four narrow facetted surfaces. Below this segment, a thin cylindrical shaft seems to be completely intact, measuring approximately 18 mm long; the shaft is also lightly facetted, similar to the other segments of the object. It is unclear whether this object would have been attached to a handle, similar to that of small leather and wood-working tools or whether this is another type of object entirely. The metal is of an even dark green patina, suggesting that it at least dates to the Post Medieval period. The object measures 44.8 mm long, 5.5 mm diameter (at upper biconical tip), 5.8 mm thick at conical segment, 3.8 mm thick at cylindrical shaft and weighs 5.59 grams.

Notes:
