A iron double-loop-trapezoidal buckle frame constructed from rectangular bar and probably dating from the post-Medieval period.
The iron pin is attached to a restriction in the rectangular strap bar, though this is not visible due to corrosion deposits. The pin is of flat sheet and tapers to a point. There is a similar piece in Ross Whitehead's book of buckles, page 88 No 546. Length of frame: 46.01 mm. Width: 43.07 mm to 36.40 mm. Thickness 5.40 mm. Weight 23 grams.
Notes:
The buckle was found in close relationship to several Dove horseshoes and may be part of the harness, particulary as it is iron.
