Post Medieval (16th to early 17th century) clothing fastening, dress hook: The copper alloy fastening has a central, elaborately shaped and pierced plate, rectangular loop and incomplete hook. The rectangular loop is opposite the hook and plain. The central plate has a flat back and a shaped front. On the front is a central circular plate with a raised rim within which is a raised square piece with four pointed oval indents, one in each corner. Around the circular plate are six pierced oval loops (not all are complete) with pellets between them on the shaped outer edge. On the side of the plate closest to the hook then is a broken edge and the hooked element of the fastening is now separate. This break is recent. The hook portion jas a moulded foliate decoration which springs from the centre of a crescent shaped, moulded section. This crescent is placed with the ends pointing towards the circular plate/loop and the back. The hook is missing, and this break is not recent. The entire piece is 34.17mm long, 18.54mm wide, 2.43mm thick and weighs 2.8 grams.

See Read (2008) page 102, No.390, SUSS-ED7F16 and HAMP-51FB76 for similar examples dated to the 16th to possibly early 17th century. Read (2008, 91) classes this type of dress hook as a Class E, Type 3.
