BUCKLE

Unique ID: PUBLIC-2AB5D7

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete later medieval or post-medieval copper-alloy annular buckle. The artefact consists of the buckle frame which is an annular double loop. The frame is slightly elongated, being an oval rather than a true circle. The fame is sub-rectangular in profile, having a flat back, straight inner edge, and a front face that slopes down to the rounded outer edge. The bar is thinner and of circular section, with shallow knops in the frame at either end. The buckle is slightly convex and the bar is set towards the front face. The metal is mottled green/brown with a patchy dark green patina developing. The pin is missing.

The frame is 21.25mm long by 19.72 wide, and 2.27mm thickness. It weighs 2.27g.

A similar buckle can be seen in Whitehead's "Buckles 1250-1800" (1996: 44, No 251).
