gold finger ring, D-shape cross-section hoop. The outside curved edge is undecorated, the flat inside is engraved with I LIKE MY. CHOICH.' No makers mark.
Discussion: The style of the lettering is consistent with rings from the 17th century. Posy rings were also used as love tokens, with the inscription remaining secret to all but the wearer. A posy ring with this style of lettering and a similar inscription 'I LIKE MY CHOICE TO WELL TO CHANGE'is recorded on the British Museum database, Registration number: 1961,1202.31 and is dated to the 17th to 18th century.
