A complete cast lead alloy sub-circular uniface token of Powell Type 14 . The token is decorated with a cross and a pellet in each quarter; the other face is undecorated. The token measures 18.96 mm in diameter, it is 3.38 mm thick and weighs 7.22 grams.
Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were easy to manufacture; they are therefore difficult to date precisely outside of archaeological contexts. Tokens with simple designs could be Medieval or Post Medieval in date (1250-1800 AD). Until recently cross and pellet designs were thought to be contemporary with the similar Medieval coin designs; however publication of moulds and double faced tokens which combine Post Medieval initial style designs with cross and pellets suggest they continued into the Post Medieval period.
