An incomplete Roman copper-alloy plate brooch, missing its pin and central setting, probably dating to the 2nd or 3rd century AD. The brooch is convex on the upper side, flat on the underside and oval in shape. The upper face has the raised rim around an oval central recess that would have held a central boss, probably of glass or enamel, and is decorated with two further rims between the central setting and the edge. These may have held more enamel.
On the rear face the catchplate and hinge are still intact. The brooch measures 32.85 x 24.2mm and weighs 8.59g. It is fairly worn with a green patina.
