A complete copper alloy seal matrix of medieval date. The die of the matrix is circular with a hexagonal sectioned handle extending from the reverse. The handle tapers to a triple circumferential collar from which a tri-lobed terminal projects. The die itself is decorated with an anonymous personal seal devise consisting of a forward facing robed figure surrounded by leaves. An accompanying circumferential legend reads: '+ECCE AGNVS DEI' ('Behold the Lamb of God').
The metal has a dark blackish-green patina and is worn. The seal matrix is 27.7mm tall, the handle is 9.4mm x 4.5mm, the die is 20.7mm in diameter and it weighs 12.1g.
It is much more common for this legend to be accompanied by a devise consisting of a lamb of which there are several parallels recorded on the PAS database, including IHS-FC7526, which discusses the meaning and significance of the Agnus Dei.
