A complete copper alloy lace chape of medieval date. The chape is made from a single piece of rectangular sectioned copper alloy rolled to form a tapering tube with overlapping seam, open at the wider end and closed at the pointed end. The chape is undecorated and no attachment holes are present.
The metal has a light brownish-green patina and is worn. The chape is 97mm long, 10.3mm in diameter at the top tapering to 3.1mm at the base, 0.5mm thick and weighs 8.4g.
