Medieval (c. 1350 to c. 1450) buckle: The copper alloy buckle frame is asquare in plan and the frame and strap bar is rectangular in section. There is a notch on three sides of the frame. The outer face ofthe buckle frame is decorated with an off-set edge which has fine notches along he edge. The frame is flat on the reverse. The pin is missing. The surface of the frame has a mid green colour. The length of the buckle frame is 19.15mm long and 20.11mm wide. It weighs 5.3g.
The frame is probably dated to the Medieval period. Whitehead (1996) illustrates a square buckle, No. 142 and dates it to the mid 14th to mid 15th centuries.
