Medieval to Post Medieval (late 15th to late 16th century) lead cloth seal: The seal is composed of. It is composed of a two overlaying sub-circular discs, one has a circular perforation the other has an integral flattened stud on the reverse. A portion of the edge is abraded suggesting originally an integral ribbon connecting the two discs. The outer face of the stud disc has a large F with a sun motif one side and a flower the other. Around the edges there is a legend, which only a fragment remains on the flan and reads '...LANGII P'. The annulet disc and the centre of the flattened stud appear to have a crown, which may surmount an ornate shield. The surface of the seal is oxidised forming a cream colour. It measures 23.56mm long, 22.39mm wide and 5.93mm thick. It weighs 9.6g.

The seal is a cloth alnage seal for faulty cloths, with the central F standing for faulty. Over half of the alnage seals in groups from Gloucestershire have these 'faulty' stamps (Egan, 1995;56). An almost identical seal is recorded by Egan (2005, no. 110) and dated tot he late 15th to perhaps the late 16th century.
