Copper alloy brooch fragment. Hinged Aesica brooch, Mackreth type AES 4.a. Tubular wings clenched behind retaining an axis bar and a cast pin. The wings are met by a broad upper bow with central ridge whose top or crest is lost, flanked by wide flutes with outer ridges, and with knops at its corners. The lower bow is lost. Suggested date: Early Roman, 100-150.
