Copper alloy with gilding and enamel heraldic stud. Cast mount comprising a flat-based plate with higher central part with an integrally cast rivet of 5.5mm square which now projects c.13mm - its tip is lost - from the middle of the back. An heraldic motif comprises a central heater shield flanked by tripartite spigs of foliage. The shield has a red (gules) ground with a central chevron pointing upwards, with either three smaller chevrons or other motifs with pointed tops above and below the larger. Gilding traces remain on these devices, on the rim of the shield, and on the sprays. It is possible further colorant, of uncertain tint but now green, filled the background behind the features rehearsed above. Suggested date: Medieval, 1300-1500.
