Copper alloy trumpet brooch dating to the late 1st to 2nd Century AD. Incomplete but with swivelling wire chain loop and fully developed acanthus inserted in a tubular bronze axis bar. In addition to the acanthus, decoration is applied to the loop clip, foot knop snd the upper and lower mid-bow flanges, all of which are finely knurled. The underface of the foot knob is recessed for enamel, now missing. The straight leg is quite normal, as is the solid catch-plate.. The catchplate is intact and a small amount of the pin remains. The bow is a narrow 'D' shape. The brooch is similar to Hattatt's no.80 (2000, page 326, Fig. 185)..
The length is 74mm, the width is 35mm thickness 10mm and the weight 25.40g.
