Cast copper alloy strap end of early medieval date, that is the 9th century. It is a Middle Saxon/ Late Saxon strap end of Thomas' Class A Type 1 with a broken across split for strap in upper end. Both surfaces are extremely worn but along part the obverse was probably decorated with a cast trapezoidal panel of Trewhiddle-style animal ornament with niello inlay (extremely worn now), comprising a single seated quadruped to dexter with head raised and mouth open mouth. The strap end has a cast animal-head terminal with large ears which are still clearly visible.
