An incomplete and badly distorted lead rich copper alloy candlestick of later medieval or post medieval date. The candlestick is composite with the base being attached to the stem of the stick. The base is incomplete having lost most of its external edge. The stem of the candle stick is oval in section with the edges being faceted. The stem is relatively short - at its top is a oval socket or cup in which to place the candle. Again this socket is heavily distorted by movement in the soil The exterior surface is decorated with a double incised circumferential band or ring. The internal socket is distorted and the upper edge is poorly preserved with the rim being lost. The candlestick is a mid grey green colour with a poorly preserved slightly corroded surface patina. A direct parallel has not been found - however given its construction and size it is likely to represent a product from the lower end of the market.
The candle stick measures 57.1mm high, 37.8mm width and 24.6mm length across the mouth of the socket, 24.5mm x 18.3mm across the stem and 39.6mm x 33.9mm across the base. It weighs 96.8 grams.
