An incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative (double lug) brooch, of Roman dating (AD 43 to AD 100).
Approximately 50% of the brooch is present, consisting of the bow, incomplete wings, head and partial spring. The pin, foot and catchplate are missing, presumed lost in antiquity.
In plan, the brooch is almost T-shaped, and D-shaped in cross section. The bow head is hump-like, and angular (comma shaped) in profile, with semi-circular rectangular wings projecting from either side at the top. No decoration is present on the front of the brooch. The back of the brooch is plain and undecorated. The wings are plain and undecorated. Behind the head, on the reverse of the brooch, is a double pierced lug, still retaining part of the spring.
The brooch measures 37.4 mm in length, 26.7 mm wide and 15.0 mm thick. It weighs 10.6 grams.
The brooch is a mid green colour, and has an even surface patina.
