Roman copper-alloy initial T-shaped brooch. The wings are cylindrical with a slot in the centre of the reverse to hold the pin. The corroded remains of the axis bar are still present. The outer end of each wing is decorated with two transverse grooves and there are another pair of transverse grooves towards the middle. The bow is incomplete, D-shaped in section and S-shaped in profile. It tapers towards the broken end. Below the head the outer face is decorated with two transverse grooves, followed by a narrowed section, followed by two further transverse grooves with a raised lozenge in between them. It is similar to one illustrated by Hattatt (2000, 299, fig.158, no. 364). Bayley and Butcher date the initial T-shaped brooch from the mid to the late 1st century AD
