An incomplete cast copper alloy mount, possibly from a horse harness decoration, dating to the late Post Medieval period, circa AD1600-1700. A stub of an integrally cast spike is present on the reverse at both ends of the mount - 2 spikes in total. The position of the stubs at the extreme ends of the mount suggests that the object may have been a belt or strap slide. In plan, the mount has a lozenge-shaped body with rounded protrusions at two opposing ends. The face of the mount is concave and the reverse is convex. Cast, moulded decoration is present on the face of the mount. The design on the centre of the mount is uncertain, but a raised traverse line joining the corners of the lozenge is present. Another, angled raised line intersects the traverse line. Both of the rounded terminals have a raised traverse band with a groove to either side at the widest part of the protrusion. The design is uncertain, but grooved lines appear to radiate from the knopped terminal of the mount towards the traverse band. The reverse of the mount is undecorated. The surviving stubbs of the attachments have a lentoid cross section. The mount has an even mid brown colour. The surfaces are worn due to movement in the plough soil and the breaks are not new.
