An Early Post-Medieval (1500-1700) copper alloy mount, an elongated shield-shape (scutiform) with two integral spikes to the reverse. It measures 31.11x13.24x4.34mm and weighs 3.05g.
The plate, which is 1.52mm thick, is decorated to the front with four curling fronds either side of a central stem within a U-shaped beaded border and U-shaped rim. At the bottom of the U-shaped projects an acorn knop. At the opposite end, which is cut in a V shape, an inwards-pointing curlicue extends at either corner with a rounded knop in the centre. To the reverse the spikes are bent.
Cf. a similarly shaped mount, Read 2001, 293.
