Description: A hoard of nine Medieval silver pennies of short cross type dating AD1180-1247.
1) Silver penny Class 1ab Henry II (AD1180-1189), moneyer: Rodbert, mint: Winchester.

This coin is irregularly bent, so the obverse is convex and the reverse is concave.
2) and 4) Two silver pennies Class 2-4b (AD1189-1205) Richard I (AD1189-1199) - John (AD1199-1216). Moneyer: Stivene, mint: London.

2) Weight: 1.34g.This coin is slightly bent and there is a crack across the bust.
4) Weight: 1.14g.The lower edge of this coin has been clipped into the inscription. One edge has been bent downwards.

Weight: 1.34g This coin is bent at an acute angle and the inscription on the reverse is almost illegible.
7) Silver penny probably Class 1b (AD1180-9) Henry II. Moneyer: Turkil, mint: York.

Bust facing crowned and with sceptre, 2 curls of hair on each side, 5 pearls on the crown, round back E and pellet before REX, annulets for eyes. There are some sections around the edge missing that cut through to the inner circle.

These nine silver pennies were found together and should be considered as a hoard. The hoard is over 300 years old, therefore, in terms of age and precious metal content, the hoard qualifies as potential Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
