An incomplete copper alloy Early Medieval (1050-1100) stirrup strap mount. The mount is a Williams Class B, Type 3. Overall, it measures 35.73mm in width and weighs 21.35g. The mount is broadly rectangular in plan with two possible floral protrusions at the corners at the top end, one of which has suffered damage to its edge. Both of these protrusions contain the trace of an iron rivet. The front face is decorated with a single moulded zoomorphic head. This head is defined by two long ears expanding upwards and outwards from a central nose ridge which terminates in a wide horizontal ridge. On either side of the nose ridge is a ring forming an eye. There is also grooved decoration around the edge of the head. This may have been punched which would mean this mount fits into Group 8. At the bottom is an angled flange which has the trace of an iron rivet at each corner. The reverse is hollow and there may have been decoration on this as well.
