Sherd of glazed red earthenware dating from the 17th to 18th century, probably South Somerset ware from the Donyatt area. Mid orange fabric. Sparse (c.15%) small quartz temper up to 0.2mm. Part of the carination between the dish and rim of a plate. The rim is angled out at c.135 degrees from dish wall. There is scraffito decoration on the inner side. It had a white slip applied which was then scratched through with spiral and straight lines and the whole glazed with a clear glaze which has gone yellow over the white and olive green over the scratches. There were regular short scratches over the carination on the inner side before the slip was applied, presumably part of the manufacturing process. It weighs 11.72 grams. Too little survives to estimate the diameter although it was large, or reconstruct the design.
