A cast copper alloy junction loop from a harness mount of Early Roman date. It consists of a flat plate of sub-rectangular shape with rounded ends and a narrow waist, giving the appearance of linked circles. Between the two circles, a semicircular flange projects forwards. The edge of the flange is decorated with two narrow longitudinal grooves separated by a raised ridge.
At each end of the plate, an incised circle of metal almost the width of the plate has been ground away leaving a recessed circle filled with concentric scratches; each of these circles is then pierced centrally with a sub-circular hole.
The reverse of the flange (which is integrally moulded) is hollow and there are traces of ferrous corrosion in the base of the slot this creates. The underside of the rest of the artefact is otherwise flat except for a slight step along one edge, perhaps caused by a mis-aligned mould. There is no other decoration. The fragment has a smooth, dark green patina.
