Copper alloy with white metal plating strap slide. Cast plate comprising a cockle shell or fan shaped element with a rectangular section above it with paired horizontal ribs towards its upper and lower edges, all with a rectangular loop behind. White metal plating remains on the display face. The cockle shell was a motif associated with the birth of the Goddess Venus for the Romans; Venus was associated with manly activities such as hunting as well as with romantic exercise. Suggested date: Roman, 43-410.
