A cast copper alloy, Medieval single loop buckle with integral plate, dating from AD1250 - 1400. The loop is sub-rectangular; the outer lip is square while the inner end has rounded shoulders. The integral plate tapers towards the inner end and and has a pinched waist half way along its length. The indentations of this waist are linked together by a shallow, transverse groove across the upper side of the plate. There is no other decoration. There are two circular attachment holes, one at each end of the plate, together with a third, larger hole for the pin. The copper alloy pin remains in place. The buckle has a rough, light green patina. It is 37.2mm long, 13.6mm wide and 3.9mm thick. It weighs 2.61gm.
Similar buckles are illustrated in Whitehead, 2003, Buckles 1250 - 1800, page 34.
