A copper-alloy Colchester one-piece brooch, dating from the Late Iron Age to Early Roman period.
The brooch is complete but heavily distorted. The wings have straight, parallel sides and are of flat section. Eight coils and an external chord make up the damaged spring, which has been formed from an integrally cast projection at the centre of the head's underside. The spring extends into the pin, which is intact but bent. The external chord is held in place by a damaged rearward lug, located above the wings. The bow is of flattened-oval section and tapers towards a pointed foot. Traces of a catchplate survive on the underside of the lower part of the bow.
Length: 67.4mm; total width (due to distortion): 25.6mm; weight: 28.1g.
