Curator's Report for 2014 T175, Medieval silver finger ring fragment
Date: Medieval, 1200-1500 AD
Description: Fragment of a Medieval silver finger ring, rectangular in plan and cross-section. The outer face of the hoop is inscribed with vertical lines. The lines could form letters, hwoever they appear to read THLIH. There is no trace of gilding.
Dimensions: Weight - 0.84g, length - 12.8mm, width - 5.4mm, thickness - 1.2mm.
Discussion: IOW-4FAD23 (2011 T782), recorded through the Treasure process on the PAS database is very similar to this example, dated to between 1200-1350 AD.
Status: Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
