Complete silver thimble. The thimble is now slightly flattened and has a split running from the open end towards the crown, stopping approximately three quarters up the side. The thimble is decorated with a design of two circumferential panels, divided into two sets of three rectangular fields by vertical panels. Each rectangular field is filled with raised sub square dots. The crown has a bear tonsure decorated with an incised four-petalled flower. Between the sides and the tonsure is a double row of sub square raised dots. There is a double border to the lower edge. The border contains the inscription + FARE GOD ///
Dimensions: 26.5mm in height, 16.0mm in width, 0.7mm thick at the walls, 5.37g.
Discussion: This item is similar to a thimble on the PAS database: ESS-6EC030 (2007 T80).
Notes:
The object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal and is over 300 years old. Consequently it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of both age and precious metal content.
