An incomplete cast pewter (white metal) medal commemorating 300 years since the death of Shakespeare, dating it to 1916. Approximately 85% of the coin survives as a result of old breaks. The medal would have originally been circular in plan and rectangular in section. The edges of the medal are now very ragged. One side of the medal shows a bare headed bust left, presumably a portrait of Shakespeare, within a roped border. The inscription reads WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE. The other side shows a sheild surrounded by wreaths with the outer inscription 300 BIRTHDAY OF THE IMMORTAL BARD. The surfaces of the medal have a light green patina and are worn as a result of movement in the plough soil.
