A cast copper-alloy open work fragment, possibly belonging to a Roman knife handle, c. AD 43-410. It is also possible that this open work object dates to the Early Medieval period. The fragment is roughly rectangular in plan, with one of the longer edges raised and thicker than the opposite edge. In between the two longer edges, a symmetrical open work design is arranged with a central open oval and four sub-triangular openings arranged around it evenly. The fragment measures 16.9 mm long, 12.2 mm wide, 2.8 mm thick and weighs 1.2 grams.
