A copper alloy Post Medieval buckle dating from about 1660 - 1720. It is a two piece buckle with the sub-rectangular frame drilled to hold a separate iron spindle upon which the pin and plate are articulated. The end of the plate is missing. The frame has concave sides and bifid protrusions round the spindle holes. There is a grooved pin rest on each loop. There is a maker's mark stamped into the reverse of the plate which reads: G(R) in a heart shaped cartouche. The buckle has a rich green patina. it is similar to number 617 on page 99 of Whitehead's Buckles.
