An incomplete Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged flint arrowhead (2350 BC-1601 BC).
The point and the tip of one barb are missing due to breaks.
This arrowhead is sub-triangular in plan and is long and slender. The sides flare evenly from the top towards the barbs of equal size which are shorter than the tang. The base of the tang is straight.
Fine pressure flaking scars covers the whole surface of the dorsal face. On the ventral face, the centre is largely flat and has diffuse ripples with retouch along both edges. This retouch is short, sub-parallel and low angled.
The flint is of variable colour from off-white to dark grey.
Height: 45.60mm; width: 16.78mm; thickness; 4.39mm; width of tang: 6.83mm; thickness of tang: 2.78mm. Weight: 2.71g.
Similar flint barb and tanged arrowheads are associated with the Beaker phase of the Late / final Neolithic and Early Bronze Age c. 2500 BC-1500 BC. This example fits into the sub-classification of non-Fancy barbed and tanged arrowheads best described as a Ballyclare type (Butler 2005: 163, after Green 1980).
