Both handle and attachment loop survive. The handle is shaped like an inverted openwork letter T with filed chamfered edges. The handle has a shouldered attachment loop, rectangular sectioned with collared integral rivet. The perforation holding the handle is off-centre and has probably been mis-cast or mis-drilled. Both the handle and the attachment plug look very worn. For similar examples see Egan (1998) 175, fig.143, no.487, and Margeson (1993) Norwich Households 78-80, fig.45, nos.489-91. Similar examples can be seen on the database recorded as both chafing dishes NMS-91CC97 and as casket handles,KENT-5E5F87.2014-03-09 17:47:422019-06-09 17:02:01412014-01-251Certain112936PAS531CA93E001BB47121PUBLICCopper alloy10627CastIncompleteFairMEDIEVALMDx14221p0gjgrsxwzxPOST MEDIEVALPMx41047p0gjgrs6sgxMetal detectorCircaCirca58446218210182131823241421Restricted AccessTQ8832TQ83SETenterden26352385101459819PUBLIC-CA93E6.jpg1CHAFING DISH HANDLE FRONT AND BACKThe Portable Antiquities Scheme5images/alancharman67/South EastMinimal cultivationCultivated landEuropean RegionCountyKentDistrictAshfordCivil Parish51.0630.702444Restricted AccessReturned to finder97653
