Cast copper alloy drop- or loop-handle from a chafing dish dating from the late medieval or post-medieval period, (1400-1600 AD). Both handle and attachment loop survive. The handle is shaped like an inverted openwork letter T with filed chamfered edges. The handle has a shouldered attachment loop, rectangular sectioned with collared integral rivet. The perforation holding the handle is off-centre and has probably been mis-cast or mis-drilled. Both the handle and the attachment plug look very worn. For similar examples see Egan (1998) 175, fig.143, no.487, and Margeson (1993) Norwich Households 78-80, fig.45, nos.489-91. Similar examples can be seen on the database recorded as both chafing dishes NMS-91CC97 and as casket handles,KENT-5E5F87.
