An incomplete copper alloy and iron, possible handle of uncertain function and dating (AD 43 to AD 1900).
The possible handle is circular in shape, with a rectangular cross section. The remains of an square sectioned iron shank are present, attached to one side. Both side of the handle are heavily worn and any original decorational detail has been lost.
It measures 19.0 mm in diameter, 3.7 mm thick and weighs 4.9 g.
The possible handle is a dark green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of most of the original surface detail.
This artefact bears a resemblance to a Roman coin, but no detail can be made out. It is possible that it is a musical instrument key or other similar style of handle. Dating is uncertain, but is probably between AD 43 and AD 1900.
