Roman pot sherd of Terra Nigra dating to the 1st century AD. The sherd has a brown fabric with blue-black slip and highly burnished surface wheel thrown but very abraided. Made in the Vesle valley, near Rheims, the Marne valley and the Trier region. In Britain the distribution is principally south and east of the Severn-Humber line, with concentrations in central southern England, and Herts/Essex so it is an unusual find from Ravenglass.

The length is 43mm, and the width is 38mm the thickness 8mm and the weight is 9.73g.
